Martin Mull famous for his comedy skills has passed away at the age of 80.

Maggie Mull, the daughter of Fernwood 2 Night actor, said on Instagram that her father passed away at home on Thursday following a "valiant fight against a long illness."

She noted, “He was known for excelling at every creative discipline imaginable and also for doing Red Roof Inn commercials.”

Maggie further noted, “He would find that joke funny. He was never not funny. My dad will be deeply missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and coworkers, by fellow artists and comedians and musicians, and — the sign of a truly exceptional person — by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”

Martin was nominated for an Emmy in 2016 for his guest role as Bob Bradley's political aide on Veep.

His most recent cameos were on Not Dead Yet, Grace and Frankie, and The Afterparty.

Martin's television career began in 1977 and 1978 as the host of Barth Gimble's chat show on the slyly satirical TV series Fernwood 2 Night, which was produced by Norman Lear and later renamed America Tonight.

The 1970 country single "A Girl Named Johnny Cash" by Jane Morgan, which reached at No. 61 on Billboard's country charts, marked the beginning of his songwriting career.
