Wonka has surpassed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as well as The Color Purple in the New Year’s box office over the weekend.

As reported by Variety, with this trifecta, Warner Bros. has scored three of the top five slots at the domestic box office throughout the winter holiday season.

'Wonka' in New Year’s box office:

Wonka generated another 8.6 million dollars on Friday, December 29, 2023 emerging as the holiday favourite of the audience.

The Timothée Chalamet-starring musical continues to show strength with a total of $119 million earning up till now, and is expected to reach $300 million globally before the year turns.

'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' lands second place:

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom sank in the box office as it struggled for air reaching only $65 million in its first week of release.

Warner Bros. competed with themselves as Aquaman II landed in second place in the New Year’s box office in its race against Wonka.

'Migration' comes in third place:

Migration by Illumination and Universal Studios made a revenue of 6.7 million dollars this Friday after its 12 million dollar debut last weekend.

The motion picture showed a 17% increase in its earning which shows some promise for an animated film created with a budget of only $70 million.

'The Color Purple' takes the fourth spot:

The Color Purple settled on the fourth rank of the New Year’s box office despite its impressive Christmas Day opening.

The musical generated 4.1 million dollars on Friday and is expected to add another $20 million or so through the four-day holiday weekend frame.
