Oprah Winfrey on her weight loss journey:

Oprah Winfrey hosted a panel on September in Oprah Daily’s The Life You Want Class: The State of Weight, where she addressed her sufferings due to obesity.

Reflecting on those times, Oprah pointed out, “This is a world that has shamed people for being overweight forever. And all of us who’ve lived it know that people treat you differently, they just do.”

“You all know I’ve been on this journey for most of my life,” she further noted.

She recounted how everyone had watched her “diet and diet and diet,” saying that it was a “recurring thing because my body always seems to want to go back to a certain weight.”

The 69-year-old media mogul revealed, “My highest weight was 237 lbs. I don’t know if there is another public person whose weight struggle has been exploited as much as mine over the years.”

Oprah recalled how she was most shamed for turning to weight loss drugs during her rigorous weight loss journey saying that she felt she had to “do this on my own because if I take the drug, that's the easy way out.”

“It’s that thing where people are like, 'Let me show you the gloves. Would you like to look at the handbags? Because we know that there’s nothing in here for you. There is a condescension. There is stigma’,” she added.

The panelists:

The panel Oprah invited had multiple experts in the weight loss field, including the CEO of Weight Watchers, Sima Sistani, psychologist Rachel Goldman, and obesity specialists Fatima Cody Stanford and Melanie Jay.
