The Weeknd has stepped forward to make a significant impact by pledging to send $2.5 million worth of food aid to the war-torn area of Gaza.

The Weeknd's XO Humanitarian Fund has allocated $2.5 million to Gaza, equivalent to over four million emergency meals for affected civilians.

Corinne Fleischer, the Director for the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe Region at WFP, expressed in a statement, “This conflict has unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe beyond reckoning. WFP is working round the clock to provide aid in Gaza but a major scale-up is needed to address the desperate level of hunger we are seeing.”

The statement further read, “Our teams need safe and sustained humanitarian access, and continued support from donors to reach as many people as we can.”

“We thank Abel for this valuable contribution towards the people of Palestine. We hope others will follow Abel’s example and support our efforts,” the statement said.

More than one million people in Gaza are without adequate food supplies, with the WFP providing canned food, pasta, bread and date bars

This contribution, channelled through the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP), encompasses 820 metric tons of food, sustaining over 173,000 Palestinians for a duration of two weeks.

The Weeknd as WFP's Goodwill Ambassador:

Since the establishment of the XO Humanitarian Fund in March 2022, the Starboy singer serving as WFP's Goodwill Ambassador has raised and committed $5 million.

This funding aims to provide food assistance and aid to millions of individuals grappling with hunger worldwide.

The Weeknd assumed the role of Goodwill Ambassador in October 2021 and has further pledged to contribute $1 for each concert ticket sold during his 2024 After Hours 'til Dawn tour to the humanitarian fund.
